San Francisco, US · Full-time · $205,000 – $250,000

About this role

Semgrep is seeking a Staff Product Designer to own the end-to-end experience of Semgrep's platform and define what great security tooling looks and feels like. This is a high ownership role with significant influence over both the product and how design operates within the company.

You'll work on deeply technical problems across detection, remediation, triage, and developer workflows, making them intuitive and trustworthy, while partnering with PM and engineering leads to shape roadmap direction and product strategy grounded in real user needs. You'll conduct user research using both qualitative and quantitative signals like task success and time on task.

Design at Semgrep is still growing, so you'll have a large influence over how we operate and scale, and we use tools like Claude Code and Cursor to accelerate our work. We want someone who pushes us even further in using AI to fundamentally accelerate how we work.

You'll help define what we build and how we build it, shaping design systems and influencing how design scales as the team grows. Semgrep's AI learns your context to cut false positives, validated by 95% of security reviewers across 6M+ findings.

Requirements

  • Experience designing for deeply technical workflows, such as security, developer tools, or enterprise software.
  • Ability to design whole systems and make complex workflows intuitive and trustworthy.
  • Comfortable with both qualitative and quantitative user research methods, including task success and time on task.
  • Proven ability to partner cross-functionally to shape product strategy and roadmap.
  • Strong craft, clear thinking, and high standards for execution.
  • Experience building guidance and design tools that enable non-designers.
  • Familiarity with using AI tools like Claude Code or Cursor in the design process.

Responsibilities

  • Own ambiguous cross-cutting design initiatives end-to-end, from problem framing and research through shipped outcomes.
  • Partner closely with PM and engineering leads to shape roadmap direction and product strategy grounded in real user needs and behaviors.
  • Design whole systems to make complex security workflows feel simple and trustworthy.
  • Conduct and champion user research using both qualitative and quantitative signals like task success and time on task, and share knowledge about users and their workflows.
  • Raise the quality bar through strong craft, clear thinking, thoughtful critique, and high standards for execution.
  • Build guidance and tools that enable non-designers to make better design decisions.
  • Help shape how design scales at Semgrep as the team and product grow.
  • Use AI tools as a core part of how you design and build when they meaningfully improve speed or quality.

Benefits

  • Opportunity to use AI tools like Claude Code and Cursor as a core part of the design process.
  • High ownership role with significant influence over product and design operations.
  • Work on cutting-edge security tooling trusted by leading companies like Vanta, Lyft, and Dropbox.
