Ashby

Los Angeles, US · Full-time · $180,000 – $240,000

About this role

We're looking for a versatile, intrinsically motivated designer who is excited to contribute to rethinking how modern software is designed. At Ashby, you'll be part designer, part product manager, part consultant, and part design system manager.

Our unique approach is working — we're growing over 100% year-over-year with notable customers like Notion, Linear, Shopify, and Snowflake. You'll own projects from beginning to end, sometimes providing project updates and managing resources rather than being pinged by a separate product manager.

We maintain a near seed-stage-like culture with fuzzy lines between functional roles, as much autonomy as you can handle, and a focus on IC-work with an almost-no-meeting culture. The design department's job is not to make every single design decision but to equip our entire product team to make better decisions themselves.

You'll tackle the biggest design challenges while editing decisions that PMs and engineers choose to make. This principled approach has allowed Ashby to take down incumbents in multiple verticals all at once — we don't settle for the status quo.

Requirements

  • Versatile and intrinsically motivated designer
  • Excited to contribute to rethinking how modern software is designed
  • Comfortable with fuzzy lines between functional roles
  • Able to handle as much autonomy as you can take
  • Experience designing software with a principled, non-status-quo approach
  • Capable of being the product manager when needed, owning a project end-to-end

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to rethinking how modern software is designed
  • Act as part designer, part product manager, part consultant, and part design system manager
  • Own projects from beginning to end, including providing project updates and managing resources
  • Equip the entire product team to make better design decisions
  • Edit design decisions that PMs and engineers choose to make
  • Tackle the biggest design challenges yourself
  • Design varying degrees of projects — from settings pages to full product ownership

Benefits

  • Near seed-stage-like culture with fuzzy lines between functional roles
  • As much autonomy as you can handle
  • Focus on IC-work with an almost-no-meeting culture
  • Product-market fit and scale of a growth-stage startup with the agency of a seed-stage startup
  • No-nonsense, no-red-tape culture
