About this role
Mission Bit is a San Francisco-based nonprofit that inspires youth of color to explore STEM through project-based computer science education embracing their identities. As Lead Instructor for Intro to Web Design, you'll connect with students to foster an engaging, welcoming classroom environment. This highly visible, student-facing role reports to the Director of Education.
You'll use Mission Bit’s in-house project-based curriculum to plan three lessons per week. Dedicate 70% of time to teaching, preparation, and student support while adjusting lessons to meet diverse learning needs. Ensure students build final projects showcased at Demo Day.
Collaborate with TAs, instructional staff, and volunteers during weekly Instructor Circles and planning meetings. Create an inclusive classroom culture around core values of social justice, community, accountability, smart risks, and love. Attend required staff meetings to elevate standards.
Receive training for all instructional staff plus ongoing support throughout the semester. Communicate progress to students, families, and program staff. If passionate about community, social justice, coding, and bridging the tech divide, uplift Bay Area youth in this seasonal remote role.
Requirements
- Passion for community, social justice, and coding
- Desire to uplift Bay Area youth and bridge the tech divide
- Experience fostering engaging classroom environments for diverse youth
- Ability to adjust project-based lessons to students’ learning needs
- Comfort suggesting and implementing ideas to elevate curriculum standards
- Familiarity building relationships with students from communities of color
- Comfortable with remote teaching and Google Meets for collaboration
Responsibilities
- Create an inclusive and community-based classroom culture surrounding Mission Bit core values
- Prepare and facilitate two lessons per week to diverse group of learners, adjusting to meet students’ learning needs
- Ensure students develop sufficient understanding to build final project for Demo Day
- Foster individual and meaningful relationships with students
- Communicate and collaborate with TA and other instructional staff including volunteers
- Attend weekly Instructor Circles and co-instructor planning meetings
- Suggest and implement new ideas to improve quality and integrity of curriculum
- Communicate course progress to students, families, Program Staff, and Innovative Learning Manager
