About this role

Mission Bit is a San Francisco-based nonprofit inspiring youth of color to explore STEM through project-based computer science education embracing their identities. As Lead Instructor for Intro to Game Design, you'll connect with students to foster an engaging, welcoming classroom environment. This student-facing role reports to the Director of Education.

You'll use Mission Bit’s in-house curriculum to plan three lessons per week, with 70% of time on teaching, prep, and student support. Create inclusive culture around core values like social justice, community, and accountability. Adjust lessons for diverse learners to build final projects for Demo Day.

Collaborate 20% with TAs, instructional staff, and volunteers during weekly meetings. Suggest and implement ideas to improve curriculum quality and standards. Foster meaningful student relationships while communicating progress to families and program staff.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience with Unity/C# or relevant game design tools
  • Passion for community, social justice, and coding
  • Experience fostering engaging classroom environments for youth
  • Ability to adjust lessons for diverse learners' needs
  • Comfortable collaborating with TAs and instructional staff
  • Interest in uplifting Bay Area youth and bridging the tech divide
  • Proficiency in project-based computer science education

Responsibilities

  • Create an inclusive and community-based classroom culture surrounding Mission Bit core values of social justice, community, accountability, smart risks, and love
  • Prepare and facilitate two lessons per week to a diverse group of learners, adjusting lessons to meet students’ learning needs
  • Ensure students develop sufficient understanding to build final projects showcased at Demo Day
  • Foster individual and meaningful relationships with students
  • Communicate and collaborate with the TA and other instructional staff, including classroom volunteers
  • Attend weekly staff meetings
  • Suggest and implement new ideas that improve the quality and integrity of Mission Bit and curriculum
  • Communicate course progress to students and their families
