About this role

Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. Claude Design lets anyone collaborate with Claude to create polished visual work: interactive prototypes, product mockups, slides, and marketing collateral. Engineers who join now will define what the product becomes after its research preview launch.

You will build the design canvas, real-time editing, inline comments, and live adjustment controls. Start from a prompt or codebase and refine outputs through conversation and direct edits. The work bridges frontier research with intuitive, high-craft design experiences that users reach for first.

You will partner directly with research teams, designers, and internal test users to gather feedback and validate concepts. Set technical direction on editor architecture, real-time collaboration, design-system inference, and performance at scale while treating latency and reliability as first-class concerns.

Operate as a technical leader on a small team shaping the roadmap and mentoring engineers as the team grows. Strengthen the handoff to Claude Code so designs translate cleanly into production and feed insights back to research about model effectiveness.

Requirements

8+ years of experience building full-stack applications with deep frontend strength
Track record of zero-to-one work in startup or startup-like environments
Experience setting technical direction for a team or workstream
Experience mentoring other engineers while staying hands-on

Responsibilities

Build and ship Claude Design's core surfaces including the design canvas, real-time editing, inline comments, and live adjustment controls
Collaborate closely with research teams to turn frontier vision and generation capabilities into intuitive design experiences
Work directly with designers and users to gather feedback, iterate quickly, and validate product concepts
Set technical direction for editor and canvas architecture, real-time collaboration, design-system inference, and performance
Design and run experiments to test product hypotheses from prototype tests to evaluations of generation quality
Own the quality bar for how the product looks and feels with latency and responsiveness as first-class concerns
Strengthen the handoff to Claude Code so designs translate cleanly into production
Shape the roadmap alongside design and product while mentoring engineers as the team grows
